Infants Ages 6-12 Months:
- Wyomissing Optometric Center proudly participates in the InfantSEE Program, providing free eye exams for children aged 6-12 months.
- The InfantSEE program is a public health benefit that offers complimentary eye exams for all infants. This initiative ensures your baby's eyes are healthy and makes eye and vision care an integral part of their wellness journey, enhancing their quality of life. Complimentary exams are available to all infants, regardless of family income.
Preschool Children:
- Schedule an eye exam for your 3-4 year old child to prepare them for school.
- Children in this age group may not always be able to communicate about vision problems they are experiencing. Our pediatric optometrists understand this and employ equipment and techniques to examine their eyes and vision without relying on verbal responses.
- Given that 80% of learning occurs through the visual system, even children with 20/20 ("perfect") vision may encounter difficulties with eye teaming, tracking, or focusing that can hinder their learning. It's crucial for young children to undergo a comprehensive eye exam as early as possible during their educational years.
Elementary, Middle School, and High School Students:
- Recognize the difference between a vision screening and a comprehensive eye exam.
- Identify any reading or learning challenges and discuss them with our optometrists.
- Schedule a comprehensive eye exam during or between each school year.
- Pediatricians and school nurses often conduct vision screenings to look for red flags indicating possible vision problems. These screenings typically measure your child’s ability to see clearly at varying distances. Less common elements of a vision screening include depth perception screening, color vision screening, or a plus lens test for farsightedness.
